Bill Montgomery just congratulated me on never having missed a column, but I was debating whether to miss this one or not. I decided not, albeit there'll be considerable vamping to fill out a half a column.
We went for a sail last Saturday with RogerPierce and Ann. It was one of those gorgeous Indian summer days, cool, but warm sunshine. Roger is pretty well adjusted to his company's move from downtown Manhattan to Patterson, N.J. It's quite a drive from Cos Cob, Conn., but he was rewarded not too long ago with a hearty lunch with a couple of Jersey residents, Tom Allen and Larry Schiffenhaus. He neglected to tell us whether or not any of them got back to work.
Also from Jersey comes news that JulianRobinson is still in the political arena and has finally emerged a winner. He was recently elected chairman of the Democratic Committee in Jersey City. Julian makes his living as vice president for student services at Jersey City State College and says that his new-found political success was done without the backing of any organized machine. Come on, Big Julie! We just know who runs the machine now. Let's be honest for a change.
My old roommate, Ralph Lynch, was in town for some business down on Wall Street and a tennis match at Forrest Hills. Ace allowed as how it ain't all bad to have kids all grown and out of the nest (I'll probably never know about that). Aside from some graying on top, he was just about as you'd remember him.
On a sad note, we've just learned of the death of Dr. David Abrahams in California. An obituary will appear in this or a later edition of the magazine.
And a reminder. Next spring is our 30th reunion, one year early. Connie Carstens and I won't let you forget it.
Happy holidays!
