46 After my sterling initial effort I thought I would be overwhelmed by eager classmates giving me a great amount of material. Alas, how wrong I was! Really, folks, I can't write much without your help.
However, I took to the phone and found out from John McClintock that Bud Wingate and wife Betty were in Hanover in early August. The occasion was the marriage of son Ted '77. The rehearsal dinner was held at Pierce's Inn, and hosted, of course, by our own Reg and Nancy Pierce. Bud is still in Minnesota, whether retired or not, I don't know. John McClintock also advised that he and Edie were about to depart on a two-month motor trip, visiting some of the children, making a stop in John's native Minnesota, attending a bank meeting in North Dakota (not affiliated with BCCI), and doing a little hunting in Saskatchewan.
News comes via the College that ColinGunn has been elected new chairman of the board of trustees of the University of Bridgeport. The announcement cites Colin as "a prominent attorney" and lists his many accomplishments. The highlight of the whole article, obviously, reads: "Mr. Gunn is an alumnus of Dartmouth College." Congrats from all of us, Colin.
In May, I attended a 50-year high-school reunion. A couple came by and the man said he was a classmate from Dartmouth. I was a bit embarrassed because I had not known BillCarlson while in school. His wife, Margaret, was my high-school classmate. Bill is retired and lives in Freehold, N.J. He put in many years, as he put it, with the "Foreign Service." I'm going to nail him for lunch and get the real scoop. For now, suffice it to say, he was on our side. He asked about Peodie prep school classmates Dick Mason and George Swick both of them still reside in New jersey. I called George but was told he was vacationing at his home in Utah. Now I ask you, do many of us have a second home in Utah? I'll get more information from George when he returns.
John McClintock will be getting out a newsletter very shortly. I believe that it will contain a full report on our class effort for each Alumni Fund. I know we did not reach our goal perhaps our aim was too lofty. No matter, a world of thanks must go to Welles Fendrich and all his crew for their fine work.
By the time you read this some of you will have re-experienced Dartmouth once again at our mini-reunion. I hope you enjoyed, and if all goes well, I hope to make it myself. So long for now, and I would like to hear from you!
