"We first went to Prof. Haddock who examined each of us on twelve lines in the first part of the fifth book of the Eneid. . . . Without saying whether satisfactory or not, he said, "I have done examining you; is it convenient to pay your tuition now?"
Horace Webster, 1849.

Robert E. Field '43, partner in an accounting firm, and Ronald B. Schram '64, partner in a legal firm, were nominated for alumni trustee by the Alumni Council at its meeting early this month in Hanover. By terms of the nominations, which passed unanimously, Field was selected to succeed David P. Smith '35, whose trustee term expires next June, and Schram was selected to fill the vacancy to be created by the retirement, also in June, of trustee chairman David T. McLaughlin '54.
Field and Schram were the candidates recommended by the Nominating Committee of the Alumni Council. Provision was made for one or more further nominations from the floor at the full meeting of the council, but none materialized. Unless other candidates are put forth by petition within two months (see following story), Field and Schram will be recommended to the Board of Trustees as the nominees of the alumni.
As is traditional with alumni trustees, the new nominees are distinguished by service to Dartmouth no less than by professional accomplishment. Field, who joined the accounting firm of Price Waterhouse after graduation from Tuck School in 1947, has been an overseer of Tuck School, reunion chairman and head agent for his class, a district enrollment director, and a member of ranking committees of both the Third Century Fund and the Campaign for Dartmouth. Two years ago, he received the Alumni Award for his service to his community and the College. He graduated magna cum laude from Dartmouth, where as a student he was a member of the staffs of The Dartmouth and the Dartmouth radio station, DBS. He joined Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity and was a runner for the cross-country team. During World War 11, he served with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific theater, rising to the rank of full lieutenant. Field is currently deputy chairman of Price Waterhouse International and a member of the firm's policy committee. A specialist in the petroleum and public-utility industries, he has published a number of articles in those areas. The Fields live in Purdys, New York.
Schram joined the Boston law firm of Ropes and Gray in 1970, after completing law school at the University of Michigan. As a law student, he was president of the Dartmouth Club of Ann Arbor, and since then he has been a class agent, class newsletter editor, a trustee of the Dartmouth chapter of Beta Theta Pi fraternity, a member of the Alumni Council, and class reunion chairman. Currently president of his class and a member of the Fraternity Board of Overseers, he serves on an area leadership committee for the Campaign for Dartmouth. As an undergraduate, he was president of Beta Theta Pi and a member of Palaeopitus, Green Key, and the Undergraduate Council. He was a quarterback in varsity football and participated in basketball and crew at the varsity levels. Between Dartmouth, where he graduated magna cum laude, and law school, Schram attended Cambridge University, where he received a master's degree in economics from Kings College. He became a partner at Ropes and Gray in 1978 and practices general corporate law for the firm. Schram and his -family live in Hingham, Massachusetts.
