It is interesting sometimes how coincidences occur. I recently received a fine letter from Tom Peisch who, with his wife Alice, is living in West Roxbury, Mass. Tom is an attorney specializing in litigation with the firm of Burns & Levinson. Alice has also gone back to practicing law part-time after the birth of their son, Philip James, on August 9. After a trip to France, Tom had occasion to write to Professor H. Frank Brooks, who was in charge of the Dartmouth Foreign Study Program in Lyons in which Tom was a participant. I am sure that all of our classmates who went on foreign study programs while at Dartmouth would agree as to their great value. It seems, as Tom wrote, that as the time goes by one appreciates even more fully what a stupendous experience these programs were. Tom got a reply from Professor Brooks, who was then in Aix-en-Provence, leading a group of Vanderbilt students. He sent his best through Tom to a number of those who were in the program, including Jeff Locke.

And coincidentally, I received an announcement from Bell and Howell Corporation in Chicago indicating that Jeff has been named vice president, business development, of the newly created interactive communications division of the company. As v.p., Jeff will be responsible for developing and marketing new products in the area of computer-based training for industrial and educational markets. Jeff has held a number of positions with increasing responsibility with Bell and Howell since he joined the company six years ago. After his graduation from Dartmouth, he received an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago and was a captain in the Marine Corps.

There's just one other piece of news this month. Tom Coffman, who went on to the University of Pennsylvania after Dartmouth and is an architect, has been named an associate with the firm of Sasaki Associates Inc. A multidisciplinary design firm based in Watertown, Mass., Sasaki also has offices in Washington, D.C., and Florida. Tom has been with the firm for two years. His current project responsibilities include serving as designer/project manager for the St. Vincent Hospital Amphitheatre and Medical Library in Salmon Brook Corporate Park in Hartford, Conn.

That is all of the incoming news that I have this month. I hope that some of you will take a few minutes over the summer to drop me a line so that our classmates can learn what you are up to.

I also hope that those who have not yet made their contributions to the Alumni Fund will take time to write out a check, knowing that the funds are needed and will be greatly appreciated.
