There are honors, and then there are HONORS. Hal Feuchter believes that he holds the geriatric first-born award for the class. Kay and Hal Feuchter brought their very first baby into the world just prior to the 25th reunion. At Hal's request, I have passed this valuable information along to the well-known news- hound Bill Hartley because Hal believes he "looks and sounds like he's ready." Other entrants may apply. Most of us at reunion thought Clay Freeman looked especially interesting pushing a pram with his new baby, but Hal insists that it was not Clay's first.
Stuart Kornfeld has been elected as one of 36 new members from the United States of the Institute of Medicine. Stuart is a professor of medicine and biochemistry at Washington University in St. Louis. Congratulations, Stuart.
Alan Smith, a captain in the U.S. Coast Guard, enjoyed seeing all the former Glee Club members at reunion. The Glee Clubbers rehearsed with the present director and then proudly trooped up on the stage on Friday night to sing with the current Glee Club. Our wives clapped and our children looked amazed to see the old fellows mingle with the current men and women of Dartmouth. Al's comment is apt: "The spirit of Paul Zeller permeates all of us who had the privilege of singing with him." Al and Joan Smith live in Durham, N.H.
Lindley Hall of Norwood, Mass., included a comment shared by many at reunion. Among his reasons for enjoying the time in Hanover was that we are "past the age when we feel competitive and when talk so often revolved around accomplishment." He loved the "easygoing but exciting time."
Ben Fuller of Bloomsburg, Pa., has diligently pursued the scholarly life in recent years. He is acting assistant chairman of the Bloomsburg University English Department. Last August he received his master of arts degree in journalism from Pennsylvania State University. Ben's wife Christine teaches Latin part time in the foreign language department at Bloomsburg. For Ben, the reunion was a welcome break and a chance to renew old friendships and make new acquaintances.
Finally, I'm sorry to have to pass on word of the death of John Lanigan. His neighbor and friend Dan Goggin '57 has written a tribute which will be in this or a subsequent issue of the Magazine. Dan also noted that a college education fund has been established for the two Lanigan children. Contributions may be mailed to: Lanigan Education Fund, c/o Baybank Trust Company, 22 Union Avenue, Sudbury, MA 01776.
Everyone, please write to your class secretary. Wives, write for your husbands. Classmates, get off the bubble and do it. Seriously, it is so nice to hear from you and share the events of your life with our classmates.
