As it has been nine months since our graduation, it is the appropriate time for me to set forth the ground rules for the class child. The following is from the Dartmouth Class Officers Manual, page 24, paragraph 6: "Announcing the Class Child: The first child born to a member of the class married after graduation may be announced as the 'Class Baby.' Traditional practice suggests that the class present the infant with a silver cup, spoon, etc., engraved to record his or her official status. The only rule to be observed is that the date of the marriage shall be following, and not before, graduation of the alumnus/a."

You may think this is a joke, but I am in earnest. The quote is for real; I have purchased the prize. Now all I can do is wait for the baby born with the silver spoon in its mouth. Note that the only stipulation is that the marriage be after graduation; hence, we may already have a winner, but I have not heard of one to date.

Several couples have been mentioned in earlier editions of my ruminations, but none of them are believed to be taking advantage of this opportunity. Fear not, classmates, as others have stepped forth to augment the growing number of married couples among our ranks. Soon we will have a child of our very own!

The latest entrants in the contest are Peter Lambert and Heather Hazel, who were married in January. They join Mary MacFarland and Buddy Seebert '79, who were married last July and are living in Austin, Tex. Buddy is finishing law school and Mary is teaching fourth grade. Excited at the prospect of winning such a prestigious award, Sheila Kay and Kent Cooper have announced their engagement and are planning a May wedding. Mark Pals will not be far behind, as he intends to wed Daphne Patterson, Mt. Holyoke '83, on May 28. Mark is at the University of Illinois Med School and Daphne will be entering the U. of I. Law School.

Anne Remmer and Bill Cole are aiming for a summer wedding, and Doug Latham and Betsy Sullivan will take their vows in August. Until then, Doug can be reached in Munich, Germany, where he is studying modern German theater on a Fulbright grant. Betsy can be found at the Chapel Hill-Chauncy Hall School in Waltham, Mass., where she is teaching Latin and Math.

And then there is the surprise romance of Karen Masterson and Eric Einhorn. Eric and Karen have decided to tie the knot during the most beautiful time of the year in the most exotic place on earth mud season in Hanover. Isn't love grand?

Those are all the couples I currently know of, but I am confident more will be revealed before I report back to you on the status of "Project Baby Boom."

If any of you can identify and confirm a winner, by all means, let me know.

Meanwhile, back in Zaire, Tim Jarvis and Martha Campbell are moving right along. Tim is at the Language Institute in Shaba and Martha is working for the Peace Corps at an unknown location. A few thousand miles north, Gail Koziara is leading her French basketball league in scoring. Gail will be traveling around Europe after her season but should be back in the States by June.

The word from the Mexican office is that Tim May has recently concluded (or will soon conclude) Spanish lessons in Hanover and is headed for Mexico to do social work. In Boston there is yet another classmate at Harvard Warren Allmon is pursuing a Ph.D. in geology.

Phil Kaufman is studying and privately auditioning for acting jobs in New York. Charlie Winslow has appeared in several publications as a model and apparently is building an impressive portfolio. I think Herb Harwick is building strong portfolios also, at a major New York bank, but the last time I saw him he was hot sure which one would obtain his services.

Jon Ettinger writes that he is "still working for Comprehensive Yacht Services doing boat maintenance and management. My duties now center around sailboat rentals and windsurfing instruction. Life in the Florida Keys is great." Souds rough, doesn't it?

Denise Clement is working at the University of New Hampshire with the Durham New Testament Church. Denise and a group of others, which includes Robert Lee and Paul Brock, have started the Durham Church and modeled it after the Dartmouth Christian Fellowship.

Watch for Landis Arnold on ESPN sports television this winter, as he is skiing with the U.S. ski-jumping team. He will be competing in the Lake Placid World Cup, the pre-Olympics, the World University Games, and the World Ski Flying Championships. Landis plans to finish in Hanover this summer.

That's all for now. Let me know if you are doing something interesting and remember, keep an eye out for that baby. Kinger.
