When we called Van Quackenbush in Valley Center, Calif., Marj told us he wasn't home and wasn't about to get there. Seems their home, with two and a half acres of grounds, is on a hill, but to get there you have to drive over the creek just below. And this was one of the nights just about everything dumped out of the skies in southern California (where "It Never Rains In . . . ") and five more inches of rain were on the way.

Aside from such natural challenges, Marj and Van are happily ensconced among the oranges and avocados and together publish the weekly Valley Road Runner. They returned to California nine years ago, after varied publishing adventures in the Midwest. Daughter Ann is married and also lives in Valley Center, not far from San Diego. She directs a ballet studio. Daughter Susan is married and lives in Hamilton, I11., and at this report was just about to present Marj and Van with their first grandchild. Last summer, the Quackenbushes enjoyed a cruise to Alaska.

Don and Sandy Kingsley live in Yorktown Heights, N.Y. After many years of writing and editing for corporate publications, Don now works for the U.S. Postal Service in Croton-on-Hudson. He's still an active tennis player, and Sandy " keeps the journalistic tradition going by "working on the local Penny Saver publication. They recently celebrated the marriage of their daughter Jill, who lives nearby in Fishkill. Daughter Beth works for the Westchester County executive. We regret to report the sad news that the Kingsleys' son, Scott, died last year.

No way to keep Class President Paul Young out of the money game. He was just reelected, no doubt unanimously, as treasurer of the Mary Hitchcock Hospital board of trustees.

If the ALUMNI MAGAZINE carried wedding photos, which it doesn't, this month you would have seen the visualization of the wedding of Christine Nicholson '74 to Calvert Bowie '73, son of Phil and Barbara Bowie. The wedding party included a large Dartmouth contingent, not the least of which was the bride's father, Ken Nicholson '45.

Fred Wallis, of South Burlington, Vt., is listed among the Friends of Dartmouth Swimming, a newly-formed organization a group that other '43 Michaelmen ought to support. We tried to reach captain Fred by phone, but he was briefly out of town, so we'll try it again.

Lomax Littlejohn III (our own HotsyTotsy, dispenser of now-famous hot dogs in Taos) continues to draw media appreciation. This time it's "The Reincarnation of Lomax Littlejohn III" in the January 1983 issue of Dynamic Years. From the article, here's an additional L. L. III story: "Recently a tourist approached the hot-dog wagon. He turned out to be a friend from the old days. The man queried him for five minutes as to the state of his health, dwelling on the aspect of mental health. Finally, he shook his head in wonder and motioned to a woman standing across the street. 'lt's 0.K., Flora, you can come across now.'

The count-down to the about-to-be famous 40th reunion on June 13—15 is ticking on smoothly, thanks to the great preparatory work of Chairman Eddie O'Brien and his many helpers. See you there!
