Before you read any further, sit down and figure out what your contribution to the Alurnni Fund is going to be this year. Hector Motroni and Steve Lanfer have done a superb job in getting our class participation consistently over the 50 per cent mark for the first time in several years. But the College-wide average is over 60 per cent! And quite franky it's disappointing that some who last year indicated willingness to contribute, waffled and left the attainment of extraordinary results to the hardcore donors. No fair! The dollar goal this year is $75,000 and the participation goal is 56 Per cent. By the way, a mere ten percent over the dollar goal would.get us the 17-year class record at $83,066. Something to think about.

Remember the old refrain "When bettr women Dartmouth men. . ."? Well, John Harbaugh'is doing his level best on that, by coaching the girls' cross-country team at Satellite High School in Satellite Beach, Fla. He describes his workouts as running a grueling course through surf, sand, orange groves, and pine trees. In addition to coaching, John actively recruits for Dartmouth and takes pleasure in the fact that one of his top German students is in the class of '86.

Also checking in from Florida was Bob Wilson, who lives on Marco Island and commutes to Naples, where he is a vice president with Security Trust Company of Naples, a subsidiary of Northern Trust Company of Chicago. Bob and Sally have two children Chris, four, and Katie, two. He too is active in alumni affairs, doing recruiting and serving as secretary of the Dartmouth Club of Southwest Florida.

Farther to the north, Jim Lustenader filled us in on his promotion to marketing director of Pepsico wines and spirits division, after having been in the international soft drinks division for the past few years. Needless to say, Pepsico recognizes talent and rigorous undergraduate training. I understand Jim was selected only after beating all competitors in Whales Tales. (Or is it Wales Tails? Oh well, the prince should know.) Jim and Elizabeth live in Bronxville, N.Y. Elizabeth reports for Time magazine, doing the "Living" section, which allows her interests to roam from the "Orient Express to gourmet chocolates."

And out west, John Reinisch has been appointed head of plastic surgery at Children's Hospital in Los Angeles. He has a new address: 426 McCadden Place; L.A. 90004.

A question has been raised about the timing for notes you send in, and when they appear in print. I should explain that the DAM deadline for class notes (which appear in the October through June issues, with a combined January/ February issue) is the first of each month for publication in the following month's issue. And generally the magazine comes out towards the end of that month (it is February 25 today, and 1 just got my January/February issue yesterday). Hence there is a two-month delay, at the least, between the time'you write and when you see how I've contorted your note! It could be longer, though, as sometimes I hang on to bits of news in fear that if I don't, there will be nothing to say the following month. Which is what I'm doing to Stu Schweizer, Bert Jones, and Roger Brett. Tune in next month! And in the meantime, WRITE!
