Graduations, marriages, Father's Day . . . typical June news. Let's hear the scoop from you non-students, you single, you non-parent folks. With this, issue ends my tenure as class secretary (whew!) and ends our column till the fall. Translation: you've got all summer to send in a few words. Send them to me and I will pass them on to the new secretary who, by the time you read this, will have been elected.
Eileen Rain took pen to paper and wrote that she is about to graduate from the University of Connecticut Dental School and will be heading north for a year to the University of Rochester to do her general practice residency. Near her at UCONN Med School are Bill Holmes, Angela Kalisiak, and Mike Hanna, all in the process of becoming docs. Angela and Mike will both be doing their residencies in medicine. Angela opted for Denver and Mike will head to Columbia in N.Y.C. Bill will start a one-year FLEX residency in Minneapolis if he returns safely from Peru, where he is winding UP his fourth year.
Also graduating and finally receiving rather than giving - dollars for knowledge is Nancy Schwartzman Malmquist, who will be a full-fledged lawyer at Ropes and Gray in Boston next year. Don Keller joined them last year, so he'll be able to show her the "ropes." Marge Robertson is also in the Supreme clerking for the chief justice in the Supreme Judicial Court. Eugenio KIm wants still more alphaber soup behind his name; he went from Thayer to B.C.Law and next jear is heading for Tuck. Ask him anyrhing! Idid not get any word on future plans, but Madeline Esta- brook Leonard and Evans Huber are also graduating from B.C. Law. David Anderson has decided to make June very memorable and will be graduating from George Washington Law as well as tying the knot.
While I am on the subject, at a telethon in N.Y.C. last week someone scribbled the following note. "Marriage: Chip Campbell, getting; Steve Murphy, getting; Greg Wajnowski, getting; Jeff Kahl, got; JeffJackson, got." Jon Zehner was dialing for dollars that night and in between calls announced he also is "getting." Actually there were a few others calling that night who are likely candidates, but far be it from me to predict such events I've been fooled by them before. Jeanne Straus "got" in March to Richard Jeffrey Tofel, who is of the Crimson persuasion. Jeanne is program director of WMCA radio and vice president of the station's parent company, Straus Communications Inc.
Greg Anderson is now in Boston and has joined the consulting firm of Putnam, Hayes and Bartlett. Bill Clement is down the road in Needham teaching math to young minds at St. Sebastian's. Tom Tretheway is also teaching and is at Hotchkiss.
Teacher-of-the-year award goes to ChrisO'Brien, who has just returned from the Peace Corps in Gambia. Chris had many projects while he was there, but teaching people how to use stoves as well as build them was his favorite. Chris came up to Hanover for a few days and treated many to a slide show of his travels and adventures. Otho Kerr and Burr Gray have also been recent visitors. Life was so exciting the weekend they were here that we ended up hitting the hot spots in W.R.J. I don't think those city guys could handle the peace and quiet, so they headed back home without very much persuasion. Before they left they told me that Laurie Branch and Dave Prince are com- muting Laurie is with P&G in Cincinnati and Dave is with Pepsico in N.Y.C. Happy trails!
Colleen Sullivan, prompted by intrigue concerning her carefully-chosen agent assign- ments, called and told me about life in the robot industry. Colleen, along with a friend, started a company called Savage Robotics. Hmmm, you say. I hmmmed myself— no, I don't know why they called it that, but if you remember it then it probably does the trick. Colleen is in charge of sales and marketing, so if you need an extra hand, you now know whom to call.
It would be a crime to neglect the latest batch of local yokels and other folks I have run into around the Hanover Plain. Cinda Fernald was up a couple of weeks ago visiting relatives, which gave her a good chance to get away from her exams at Harvard Law. It also gave her a chance to check out Hanover before she heads out to Seattle, where she has accepted a position with a law firm. Phil Odence has been seen jogging around with the latest music box strapped to his head. Phil has been consulting for a prof at Thayer and has been moving around the country with this surely he has landed on a few of your doorsteps. Student life is mighty appealing to Steve St. Clair, so he will be heading to Columbia Med from the Hanover Plain next fall. Doctor life keeps Hal Frazier slugging away down at Hitchcock. I haven't seen him come up for air since last fall.
Last, a couple of letters landed on my desk just at presstime. Jan Wolansky wrote that he has now completed his M.B.A. at the University of Chicago and is in N.Y.C. working in the treasurer's department at Exxon. The other news flash is from Kirk and Margot Schaaf Barker, who became the proud parents of Charlie on April 21.
So ends my story!
