Carl F. Long, Dean of Thayer School of Engineering for the past eleven years, has announced that he will resign his post next June and return full-time to teaching. Under his administration, Thayer School's endowment has increased twentyfold, and its enrollment has nearly doubled. As Dean, Long estalished the Dean's Fund, Thayer's annual alumni donation program. The fund now contributes more than $100,000 to the school each year. During Long's tenure, Thayer also initiated a program in biomedical engineering, a program which includes the development of new artificial joints and a new approach to cancer treatment. Long said he plans to take a year s sabbatical and then return to the faculty at Thayer school.
