The Dartmouth Alumni Council, at its November meeting, nominated John F. Steel '54 to serve a second five-year term as an Alumni Trustee of the College, beginning on June 10, 1985. Steel was elected to his first term on the Board of Trustees in 1980. He serves currently on the Committee on Alumni and Public Affairs and the Committee on Student Affairs.

A urologist in California, Steel has been active in enrollment work in southern California and was San Diego area chairman of the Campaign for Dartmouth. As an undergraduate, Steel was a member of Sphinx, Alpha Delta Phi, NROTC, and the varsity basketball team. Following service as a U.S. Navy aviator, he was graduated from Tulane Medical School in 1963. Four of his children have attended Dartmouth.

Unless other nominations are received within two months of this pub lished report, Steel's name will' go to the Trustees as the nominee of the alumni. Following is the section of the Alumni Association constitution providing for Trustee nominations other than those put forward by the Alumni Council:

Within two months after such publication in the Alumni Magazine any 250 alumni qualified to vote for the Council of Alumni may file with the said secretary a petition over their own signatures for the nomination of a qualified alumnus for the office of Alumni Trustee. Said secretary shall as soon as practicable after expiry of the period for nomination by petition, send to each alumnus, qualified to vote, an official ballot containing the name of the alumnus nominated by the Council for the office of Trustee and the name or names of candidates nominated by petition, as aforesaid. No voting by proxy shall be allowed in voting for Alumni Trustees.

If no candidates are nominated by petition as above set forth, no voting for Trustee shall take place, and the alumnus nominated by the Council shall be the candidate of the alumni for the office of Trustee.
