Lou Ingram was a Hanover visitor in August at the home of Doug Pope '23 and his wife, Ginny. He considered himself fortunate to attend with Doug one of the regular morning "Koffee Klatches" at the Hanover Inn. During his stay Lou also was in touch with Tubba Weymouth.
Bill and Florence Willard, Washington, D.C. (and in the summer Walpole, N.H.), who have attended some of the midsummer Hanover reunions, realize the importance of the upcoming 60th in June 1986 and are hoping to attend.
Charlie and Adelyn Bishop have been in residence in Hanover during the fall season, enjoying football and foliage. Their rented condo in Willow Spring Circle makes them neighbors of the Weymouths.
Sometimes wives take over letter writing when classmates are otherwise busy with other retirement matters, so it was delightful to hear from Phyllis, pinchhitting for husband Al Milans, Rehobeth Beach, Del. Phyllis wrote, "We can't wait to see the reaction of a much more recent Dartmouth graduate who is a neighbor of ours - of sorts (upon seeing what went on in 1922 as depicted in the '26 birthday card)."
Home from their three weeks Elderhostel studies in Great Britain, Dick and Dorothy Husband reported that their fourth such summer educational experience was well worthwhile from every standpoint, with the added attraction of foreign travel. En route they were able to visit
their son and family in Marblehead, Mass. Their 50th anniversary was celebrated on September 15, shortly after Dick started his fall semester teaching industrial psychology at University of Florida for perhaps his last year. But he keeps
saying this every year! The Dartmouth College News Service called attention to many new honors for poet-in-residence Dick Eberhart. He received an honorary degree from St. Lawrence University, had a poetry prize named for him at Franklin Pierce College, and had been guest speaker at the annual Utah Original Writing Competition in Salt Lake City. In addition Dick has given readings at Brigham Young University, Middlebury College, and at Harvard for the New England Poetry Club.
Stew and Mary Lou Orr had a most unusual 12-day trip in July starting on a bus with other passengers from Warren, R.I., then on to Montreal where they boarded the small cruise ship CaribbeanPrince, traveled down the St. Lawrence River and into the scenic Saguenay River. From there they went back up the St. Lawrence, through the locks and waterway, past Thousand Islands into Lake Ontario, then up the Oswego River, through Lake Oneida, and down the Barge Canal and Mohawk River to the Hudson River at Troy, N.Y. The cruise then went down the Hudson, around NYC into Long Island Sound, into Narragansett Bay, and back to Warren.
Perk and Arlene St. Clair enjoyed an August trip to Marshalltown, lowa, to visit Perk's sister, Catherine. Their Birmingham, Mich., homecoming marked the launching of their kitchen remodeling project which they hoped would not interfere with their usual New England football safari. Time will tell.
Jake and Evie Jacobus, chairs for the 60th reunion, held an August preliminary organizing meeting at their Cape Cod home in the beach area of Falmouth, Mass. After libations and light luncheon on their back lawn patio they settled down with Det Harwood, reunion treasurer Stew Orr and Mary Lou, and Donand Lou Norstrand to discuss basic plans. Many ideas were placed on the table, and now decisions are to be made.
