Two recent news items: Bob Weinig, executive vice president, marine and utility operations, was appointed to the additional position of chief operating officer of Eastern Gas and Fuel Associates in Boston.
The directors of The Universal Group Limited announced the election of LarryNoling to the position of chairman and chief executive officer. Larry joined the company in 1954 and has been responsible for the remarkable growth of this manufacturer of flavors.
Congratulations to both of you, Bob and Larry!
The dart hit Jack Arndt's name on the board, and I phoned him to see what was new in his life. Not having been in touch with each other for 35 years, we found that there were indeed a few new items of interest. At the time of this writing, Jack and Nancy were on the 142nd week of their honeymoon. They have been doing things in threes with each adding three children to the menage and Jack having three grandchildren.
Jack is with the Lees Division of Burlington Industries where he is manager of customer service. Lees is in rugs and carpets, in case any of you need new wallto-wall at a discount. With 31 years' service behind him, Jack is getting ready for his retirement years by pursuing an interest he has had for quite some time. He is going to school in the evening to obtain a master's degree in family therapy. At his current pace he will receive his degree in four years. (Jack offered me his services at a reduced rate, but I told him he was light years too late! I have just crossed the threshold of being a bachelor for as many years as I was married; what I need is a marriage broker, not a marriage counselor.) In the Philadelphia area, Jack runs into Art Judson, Angus Russell, and RonScott from time to time.
In the small world department: after talking with Jack I phoned Charlie Curtis to get some firsthand information about the Massachusetts Curtises; I mentioned to Charlie that I had just talked with Jack. Charlie said that a few years ago he had a young lady as a student in one of his classes by the name of Arndt. He asked her if she knew a Jack Arndt, and she replied that he was her uncle.
When not engaged in financial services with the Boston Insurance Center, Charlie can be found at Northeastern University teaching graduate courses in insurance and financial planning.
This fall has been a busy one, with Charlie and Alison following the exploits of son Chip who is playing linebacker for the University of New Hampshire. The Dartmouth-UNH game is approching as I write, and I'm afraid blood is going to be thicker than water in the Curtis rooting section.
Among the other family rooters is Christine, who is in Boston for a few years in a transfer from NYNEX to Bell Labs; Cindy is with INFOCOM, a computer company; and Chip is an account rep for a printing firm in Dover, N.H.
The Curtises have a home in Sunapee, N.H, where they see Jay Anderson and Bob Holmes. Jay is with Price Waterhouse in Boston, and Bob is with Burroughs in Detroit.
Incidentally, Charlie shot his first hole in one at Lake Sunapee Country Club last weekend. What a great thrill that must have been!
Time to roll up the tepee until the next edition. In the meantime, take a moment out of your busy schedules, and drop me a line on what's new at your house or at the neighbor's.
