As members of the Board of Trustees of the Hitchcock Clinic, your secretary and Al Britton are privileged to witness the attempt in Hanover to put everything of a medical nature into one superstructure, the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. This new entity includes the Hitchcock Clinic, Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital, the VA Hospital in White River, and the Medical School. A plan for new facilities at a remote site for the Hanover components is being studied.
This has been a long struggle with many hurdles, physical and human. The last of the former was the refusal of the Town of Hanover Planning Board to permit subdivision of College land to accommodate a new ambulatory care facility down by the Medical School. As a result, the powers that be on the Hanover Plain are looking to a new site for everything involved outside of Hanover. Actually, the proposed site now is on the road to Lebanon, down past Jesse's for those of you who know the territory. Such a move would involve lots of dollars and effective reuse of the buildings left behind. It is all very excitihg and reflects the dynamism of Dartmouth College as it hurtles toward the 21st century.
Dick Lee is involved in an interesting venture capital operation. He's working with a company that has developed a technique which can diagnose cancer long before current technology can spot it. Dick's effort is to raise the venture capital needed to get this new company up and on its way. Dick, we gather, has sold the family business and is keeping busy in the exciting world of venture capital.
