The class exceeded its $120,000 goal in the Dartmouth Alumni Fund drive that ended July 16. Head agent Fred Stockwell reports that contributions from class members in the last few days of the drive pushed '43 into second place in the "Green Derby" competition with six other classes from the decade of the 1940s.
According to the College's Alumni Fund office, the '43 total was $121,109. College officials counted 313 participants from the class, for a 62 percent participation rate. In March, '43 was sixth in the Green Derby competition with a 16.6 participation rate. We did the same thing last year pulled it out in the final weeks of the campaign.

The class and classy event of the summer was a '43 get-together at Bodie Mosenthal's place in the wilds near Corinth, Vt. Barb and Dr. Bob Liming cohosted the gathering, which attracted more than a dozen '43s and spouses. It was a carbon copy of last year, with a slightly smaller turnout. Those on hand were Connie and Mike Thurston, Marge and Fred Stockwell, Jennie and A1 McBean, Freda and Fred Richardson, Leslie and Don Taylor, Lucy and Dick Proctor, Bob Scott, JohnConn, Fred Wall is and Electra and TomGerber. Bill Craig '44 handled the cookout and Rick Proctor Jr. '72 and wife Karen were there with Dick's two grandsons. Oops! I skipped Hal Lindley, who was
there with friend Marge Boley. A good time, with tennis, swimming, beer, food, and amiable conversation.

Had a nice letter a few days ago from Hex Harrigan in Sarasota, Fla., about some problems in journalism that interest us both. Hex says he's planning to start thinking next year about retiring.
And speaking of retiring, Ed Lider says he's going to retire completely from his theater chain this year and move permanently to his and Dotty's place at Eastman in Grantham, N.H.
It is sad to report the deaths of two classmates on the same day, June 29: Hank Garlick, of cancer, at his home in Youngstown, Ohio, and Dr. Bill Wierman, of heart seizure, at his home in Denver, Colo.
