Former Dartmouth hockey coach George Crowe will be returning to the Thompson Arena ice this winter, but in a slightly different capacity.
Crowe was appointed the new women's hockey coach at the beginning of September, replacing Amy Craft, who resigned after posting a 9-9-1 record in her one season at Dartmouth.
Craft was the third women's hockey coach in as many years.
Crowe was the Dartmouth men's hockey coach for nine seasons before resigning after the 1982-1983 season.
During Crowe's tenure, the Big Green won back-to-back Ivy League titles in 1979 and 1980. Dartmouth also participated in the NCAA tournament in those two years, finishing third in the country both times.
Since his resignation as men's coach, Crowe has been in business for himself, starting a company called Elite Sports Programs, setting up camps for many sports including ice hockey, field hockey, tennis and soccer.
Another coaching appointment announced this fall is that of Nancy Nitardy, former All-America swimmer at the University of South Carolina, as women's swim coach. She succeeds Sue Lutkus, who served as women's swimming coach since the team's inception in 1973. Nitardy comes to Dartmouth from Dallas, Texas, where she was coach of the Mustang Swim Team, which produced both national and state champions. She is a 1980 South Carolina graduate and began her coaching career there immediately after college. Nitardy was a 19-time All-America and qualified for the Olympic trials in 1976 and 1980.
