Junior Bob Kempainen broke his own Hanover course record to lead the men's cross-country team to a 24-35 win over Brown on October 24 and complete the Green's fifth straight unbeaten Ivy League season. The victory also gave Dartmouth a 7-0 record against all opponents in dual meets. Before meeting Brown the harriers were rated ninth in the nation.
Kempainen covered the 4.6-mile Hanover course in 22:02.4 to break his old record of 22:05. He was followed by Dave Aman '89 in fourth place, Tom Paskus '89 fifth, Mike Andrews '88 sixth, and Brian Lenihan '89 eighth.
Ahead for the Green runners were the Heptagonals, which they have won the past two years; the IC4A championships at Le-high; and the NCAA championships at Arizona. Coach Vin Lananna's men should give a good account of themselves against the best in the nation.
The women's cross-country team also defeated Brown, 27-28, giving them a 3-1 Ivy League record. Previous victories were over Columbia and Harvard, with a loss to Yale. Captain Moira Teevens finished first against Brown, while Barbara Morisseau '88, Dawn Farmer '88, Barbara Stradling '87, and Therese Devlin '90 all finished in the top ten.
