The 50th birthday celebrations are now starting to come from some of the younger members of the class. Larry Selig, who is a minister at the Mount Lebanon United Presbyterian Church in Pittsburgh, Pa., had a five-part celebration which included two parties, two family celebrations (one with his father who just turned 80), and a pinwheel finish consisting of a trip to Greece and the Greek Islands with a group of friends from his church. He is looking forward to the next milestone.

Can you believe it! Monk Bancroft claims he turned 50 a week after he was carded (asked for proof of being 21) in a beer line at Giant Stadium. In that great AD tradition, associates arranged for him to be visited by a prospective lady client at his insurance agency. During Monk's presentation, the lady complained about being hot and wound up taking all her clothes off. Monk also had a surprise party given by wife Martha that included classmates Bob Millmore and wife Ann and Jack Woods '54.

Charley Cummings, another youthfullooking guy, had a quiet 50th celebration in Seattle where he is an M.D. and chairman of the department of otolaryngology (ear, nose, and throat man) at the University of Washington. Charley says that although the celebration was quiet he did take an overdose of firewater.

Peter Dietz was the focus of a surprise party involving 150 friends and family and an 18-member jazz band from Pacific Lutheran University. The surprise was almost ruined when Peter scheduled a trip to Hanover on the big day to visit his daughter, Karen '88. Fortunately, Karen flushed Peter, and all was saved. Peter claims to have lightened up with the years. In any case, the Frank Russell company, where he directs research, is thriving and in 10 years has grown from 43 employees to 480.

Out in Minnesota Ned Bixby and ReynGuyer have both turned 50. Ned's wife, Marlene, threw a surprise party which included the Guyers. Reyn's wife, Mary, put on a Sunday morning water fight in honor of the big day. This is more appropriate than it sounds since Reyn had been in the toy-and-game development business. Currently he is working on a series of kids' books plus a musical publishing company called Wrensong. He sends a fond hello to Pete Diemand, John Blades, John McHugh '58, Ed Waldron, DaveCook, John Plunkett, Bob Sproull, Wendell Smith, at al.

Jay Greene was feted by a group of friends in the California wine country north of San Francisco. The following day, friends and family arrived at Jay's country home for a champagne brunch. Jay, unfortunately, has had to retire from his shipping company because of a degenerative myopic condition. However, he is in good spirits and would like to welcome any '57 at his Napa Valley home whenever anyone is touring the wine country.

Jim Barnes turned 50 in Boise, Idaho, where he is in the insurance business. A thoughtful letter reveals a thoughtful guy who is pleased with the status of his spiritual odyssey and grateful for a wonderful wife and three daughters and a son. The two youngest girls, 10 and 8, are being educated at home, which Jim says is a great challenge because of the opportunity to emphasize moral, spiritual, and scholastic values.

Pete Pullen celebrated his 50th by winning his club's member/guest golf tournament in a five-hole, sudden-death play-off and saw his name in lights on the tote board at the race track where he had gone for a dinner with 30 of his friends.

Dick Welsh had a 50th dinner party at his Dallas home which included classmate Tim Hanley and Elliot Smith '55. He is now the managing director of information technology for Arthur Young. This means traveling around the country and around the world to automate system analysis and programming through emerging computer technology. Dick and his wife recently celebrated their 25th anniversary. Son Greg has graduated from Duke and is starting his first year as a medical student at Hopkins. Daughter Kim has completed a year at Middlebury and will spend the next year in Stockholm, Sweden, at a small liberal arts college.

Keep sending in your status-at-50 reports!!!
