HANOVER!
OCTOBER • 1987 Hope E. Rowan, 12

"I'm hungry!" I yelled. My mother wanted me to get dressed, but I wanted a snack. It was right after school and my father had picked me up on his way home from work. The family was going to the Harvard Dartmouth game. (My grandfather went to Dartmouth.)

When we got to Hanover we had dinner. I had onion soup and shrimp. It was good. For dessert I had ice-cream, whip-cream and homemade hot fudge sauce. That was good too.

After dinner, I went to a bonfire. First there was a parade. All the classes marched with their own class. My grandfather is the class of 38. We started to watch. The class of 38 went by and my grandfather got in. My mother wanted my father, my sister and I to go in too. Well, my family was in the class of 38.

Next were the speeches. I was in the front row, so I could sit down.

The bonfire was real neat. It was right after the speeches. I left right after the top of the railroad ties fell.

The next day was the day of the football game. It was a fun game. The cheerleaders threw green and white footballs for people to have, but I did not get one. Harvard won. They win every year. The score was 32-41.

I slept at the motel again that night. I had a wonderful weekend!

[That by-line doesn't mean Hope Rowanwas in the class of 1912. She hasn't evenattended the College because she's only12 years old. But she has attended a Dartmouth football game—last year's Dartmouth Night weekend. And if what shewrote about the experience for a schoolassignment in Wayland, Mass., is anyindication, Hope may wind up in theclass of 1998 or thereabouts. Then shewill be less likely to accept a Harvardvictory with such resignation. DAM isindebted to '38 class secretary Bob Rossfor passing along this article by JackLutz's granddaughter.]
