The Bequests & Trusts Program
OCTOBER • 1987 Allen S. Brush '35

The Dartmouth Bequests & Trusts Program received $13,927,438 in 1987 to set a record high for the second year in a row. The total for life income gifts this year was also a record-breaking $5,922,525.

A third record was set in the number of donors who made additions to their life income trusts at Dartmouth—73. Such confidence in the quality of the management of these trusts is rewarding and encouraging.

A thoughtful and generous bequest of $264,206 was received as an endowment for undergraduate scholarships last year from the estate of Howard L. Ropes '03 of Watertown, New York. Mr. Ropes, the oldest living Dartmouth alumnus, was 104 when he died in 1986.

The Bequest Program represents the collective caring for the future welfare of the College by an increasing number of thoughtful Dartmouth men and women. Bequests and trusts are the most personal form of charitable giving, and Dartmouth is profoundly grateful to those who have remembered the College in their estate planning.
