One of the elegant events in class history took place this New Year's Eve in Boston. Attending were: Dan and ConnieGoggin; George and Ann Johnston; Ericand Brunhilda Kunzel; Bob and JuneMacdonald; Herb and Laura Roskind;Tom and Shirley Schwarz; Bob and Althea Shirley, and Joe and Jane Stevenson. Festivities began with a dinner at the Harvard Club. Afterwards the group walked over to Symphony Hall, where the Boston Pops director of development, Joe Stevenson, had arranged great seats near a special dance platform which had been built in the middle of the first floor. The program consisted of Eric leading the Boston Pops with our gang and others dancing to Strauss's waltzes and other music. Dave McLaughlin came over and talked informally with the '57s. All in all it was a marvelous and unforgettable evening, according to my correspondent, Bob Macdonald. Bob also said that Eric is an incredible showman and very effective with the Pops Orchestra. Eric has a new record out called "Round-Up," utilizing the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra and a mixture of cowboy sounds ranging from Rossini's "William Tell Overture" to the theme music from the "Wagon Train." Sounds great!

Incidentially, when Bob Macdonald is not doing wonderful things for Dartmouth or running his company, he is continuing to be very active in hockey: as a club player, as a follower of the Dartmouth team, which he thinks will be better next year, and through his son, Jim, who plays for Deerfield.

Bob Towbin is in the process of resigning from his vice chairmanship of L.F. Rothchild, Unterberg, Towbin Holdings Inc. His firm has been prominent in the eighties as an underwriter of emerging high technical companies. Unfortunately, there is a disagreement within the firm regarding future directions which has resulted in the resignation of Bob and Tom Unterberg the chairman and chief executive. Both men will join Shearson-Lehman Brothers, where they will lead the firm's technology group.

Jim Dalton and Chuck King had dinner in San Francisco with Bill Breer on Bill's way back to Washington, D.C., from his embassy in Tokyo. Also at the dinner was the Japanese counsel general and another Japanese businessman who runs the Bank of California. During the course of the evening, the counsel general told Jim that Bill understands Japanese culture and speaks Japanese better than any foreign service officer siftce Ambassador Reichauer. Bill is currently reviewing new posting opportunities.

Larry Silberman has been in the news a lot lately. Now it's the turn of those around him: wife Ricky is the new vice chairman of the Equal Opportunity Employment Commission; son Bob '80 and daughter-in-law Christina '81 had their first child, making Larry and Ricky grandparents for the first time. And finally the Silberman's house was pictured in the Washington Post, unfortunately with smoke and firemen on the roof. Fortunately, the damage was reparable. The event was newsworthy because the houses afire included those of several notables, e.g., Jackie Onassis's mom.

Bob Sproull sent me a picture of Bob and his pal Joel Mitchell taken at Joel's pad in Rye Brook, N.Y. Their mini-reunion serves as a final reminder of our big get-together in Hanover on June 15-17.
