During a recent meeting of the faculty council at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Willis Brooks was one of the six faculty members to be presented an award for teaching excellence. North Carolina's chancellor noted: "In my opinion the faculty of this university is at the top of the dual commitment to distinguished scholarship and distinguished teaching. Dr. Brooks's lectures are clear, concise, and well prepared. His courses are challenging but enlighting and he can relate many events of the past to their forms of contemporary life. This adds color and life to whatever comes across as very dry and dull." Willis is an associate professor of history and an enthusiastic runner who can handle stretches from 10K to marathons.

Bob Lee is continuing his success on the Denver scene, where he has just been made vice chairman of the First National Bancorporation. Bob is the president and chief executive officer of this corporation's First National Bank of Denver. Further, he has just gone on the board of the Meredith Corporation, a Des Moinesbased publishing house involved in publishing, commercial printing, broadcasting, direct marketing, and real estate marketing and franchising. Meredith is the publisher of BetterHomes and Gardens. Bob is also on the board of Equitable of lowa as well as his own bank and holding company.

Larry Silberman, executive vice president of the Crocker Bank, has just been made head of a new corporate affairs unit which will manage the bank's government, legal, and corporate affairs and strategic planning functions among others. Newsweek recently mentioned that when Secretary of State Schultz was developing the administration's new Palestinian initiative, Larry and Henry Kissinger were invited to participate in discussions on the formulation of the policy.

Some of Larry's other interests include the American Enterprise Institute, the editorial board of Public Opinion, and the U.S. government's Defense Policy Board. He has just been appointed to the general advisory board of the U.S. Arms Control and Disarmament Agency, an inspired choice since if left to his own inclinations, Larry would arm each of us with personal Minute Man missiles.

Bob Towbin represented Dartmouth at the inauguration of Bernard W. Harleston as the ninth president of the City University of New York back in February.

Finally, two classmates have agreed to assume important class positions. These are George Johnston, who will head up the participation effort for the Alumni Fund, and TedSpetnagel, a spectacular choice for a new position in charge of organizing class social events. Ted is already hard at work implementing a suggestion made by Joe Stevenson that we have a cultural weekend in New York sometime this winter. This will consist of all staying at the Yale' Club and attending theater, opera, symphony, and museum events with Ted as our tour guide. Sounds like fun! More information will be provided as soon as it is available.
