There is little joy in reporting the shrinking of the '20 family. A letter from Josiah Welch '51: "It is with sadness that I write to inform you that my mother Helen Welch, widow of Dick Welch '20, died suddenly of a heart attack on January 2nd. She had just turned 88 and thoroughly enjoyed the Christmas holidays with children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. One of her grandchildren, my daughter Amy, as you know, is a member of the Class of '87 and I regret that Mother did not live long enough to read your lovely reference to Amy in your recent Class Notes."
And from her son-in-law, Albert Rossi, comes the news that Vera Curtis (Mrs. Edward M.) passed away in Kankakee, Ill., on December 15, 1986.
Cheerier news from the Holbrooks. Shortly after Pat's 90th birthday celebration, we enjoyed a sun-and-fun-filled holiday in Bermuda. Then, soon after our homecoming, I rushed him to the hospital with a bleeding ulcer. As of this mid-April writing, he is about to return home to Eastman, almost as good as new, thanks to the fine care those of us lucky enough to live near Hanover receive at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. (Of course the New Hampshire granite in his constitution strengthened his recovery, too!)
April in New Hampshire. New President, new football coach, new beginnings. Enough said!
Classmates, don't forget the luncheon before the Dartmouth-Princeton game. See the boxed item for information.
