The American Institute of Architects presented its 1987 Honor Award—the architecture profession's highest recognition to the Hood Museum of Art. The nine-member jury called the Hood "a charming museum that exerts a subtle attraction to its visitors by luring them through its public spaces outside and offering promises of mysteries within." The Hood was designed by architects Charles W. Moore and Chad Floyd.
