Although 1945 rarely receives honors as a class, its members continue to earn respect as class officers. In addition to Vic Smith's election as head agent, president John White is vice president of the Bequest and Trust Association, and John Osborn is first vice president of the Treasurers Association. Congratulations to all of you.

A recent call from Dave Mott looking for Jim Field's address resulted in a long conversation on Marine Corps experiences as well as a promise from Dave to try to make the mini-reunion in September. He is one of at least two known classmates (TedSwick is the other) who were activated during the Korean War and actually went to Korea. Dave is still working as a manufacturer's rep and hoped to see Jim in California where he operates a winery.

John Nelson Washburn finally is located and was surprised to think he had been considered lost. Apparently classmates and former students (he taught Russian at Dartmouth from 1950 - 53) advised him of my request in the April 1988 column. He is going into retirement for a second time as the 65th birthday draws near—as it is for most of us. John was honored at the Marriott Corporation annual meeting for his suggestion that the name of its "Big Boy" restaurant chain be changed to "Allie's" in honor of the widow of the hotel chain's founder. John's reward for the suggestion was ten shares of Marriott stock, a handshake from chairman J. W. Marriott at the annual meeting, and a picture to prove it.

A sad item is news that Jim Andrew died on july 12, after a heart attack. He had been a faithful attendant at reunions and minireunions and had served at a class agent as well as an executive committee member for many years. He was also very involved in Dartmouth Medical School activities and spent a great deal of time on scholarship and fund-raising for DMS. Jim and I had an annual wager on the Michigan-Ohio State football game in which the loser paid $25 to the Dartmouth Alumni Fund in the name of the other. If any of you are Buckeye supporters a similar wager offer is extended with the money to the fund in the name of the winner as a memorial gift for Jim. He will be missed at our various meetings and personal and class sympathies are extended to Elaine and their children, two of whom have Dartmouth degrees.

The class news is sparse this month so let us know what you are doing to provide fodder for the cold months to come. Hope your Halloween trick or treating is productive.
