Now that the Christmas season is well past and winter is deep upon us, I find myself with a dearth of information to report about the Class of 1948. The days are shorter and most of you are confined indoors, so I would sure appreciate a little note telling me what's going on in your life these days, even if there isn't something special to report such as a new baby, a new position, recent trip, or anything else your classmates might find interesting. It certainly doesn't have to be a momentous event as we all enjoy reading a little news about you.
A very special Christmas present arrived a little early for Rick and Mary Landon. On December 9 they had their third son Curtis, who joins Steve and Tad in the Landon household in Eastchester.
Not too long ago Frank and MargueriteMurphy and Bobbie, now thirteen, moved from Little Rock, Ark., to Texarkana, Texas. Frank is a division engineer with the Arkansas Fuel Oil Corp., a division of Cities Service Co.
Another couple who recently moved is Rusty and Mary Ratcliffe. Formerly residents of Corapotis, Pa., where Rusty was with International Harvester, they now live in Greenwood, Mass. Their son Barry is eleven, Betsy is nine, and Nancy is four.
After his graduation from college and Divinity school, Tom Crook was a business man in the Midwest. Five years ago Tom decided to go back to the ministry and held positions in Claremont, N. H., Westminster, Mass., and his latest position has been the Union Congregational Church in East Walpole, Mass. Tom just recently announced that he was leaving the ministry to go back into the business world. He says he can better serve outside rather than in the institutional church.
For several years Mel Cheeseman has been teaching high school out in the State of Washington. This school year, Mel is doing graduate work at the University of Washington in Seattle. Good luck toward that advanced degree, Mel.
International Paper Company as part of a divisional realignment has raised Lloyd Krumm another notch in executive responsibilities. He has been named sales manager of the bleached board and specialties division for the company's output of primary grades. Lloyd first went with the firm in 1950 anc after service as a sales apprentice and in general sales assignments in the fine paper division he was named manager of bleached board sales in 1959. Since that time he's attended the Stanford-Sloan Seminar in Executive Management at Stanford University on a year's leave of absence, and he has served as assistant to the executive vice president for marketing up to this recent appointment.
In case some of you were wondering what happened to one of the stylish skiers in our class, Dave Jones is now with the General Electric Co. He was public relations manager for the atomic products division last I heard. He and his wife Ursula are the parents of one son David W., now four. Last I heard their home is Schenectady.
One of our classmates is with a company that is in a somewhat unusual business. Andre Redding works for the Atkinson Merrill Co. of Sudbury, Mass., manufacturers of models for stores. Andre and Liz live in Hopkinton, Mass., with sons Pete, thirteen and Mark, eight, and Ann, now eleven.
Gordie Mann has moved back to Conway, N. H., where he taught math in high school before spending the past year at Louisiana State doing advanced work.
I imagine that this past year has been a very good one for Mario Nicosia as he is with Sears, Roebuck. The company just announced that the past year was a record year for them. Mario is the women's suit buyer and works and lives in New York. He and Stella have a daughter, Pamela seven, and Mark their son is now four and a half.
Another couple living here in New York is Milt and Esta Siegel. They live down in Greenwich Village and Milt is a science teacher at the High School of Industrial Arts and Design.
It would have been nice to see Ev Wilson back at reunion this past year and especially Mouse Taylor who came all the way from Florida would have enjoyed seeing Ev again. Ev is now the owner of a wholesale building material distributing company in Chicago. Ev and M.A. live out in Northbrook. Last I heard they had two sons Ev Jr., ten, and Bill, seven.
I hope all of you are enjoying the winter sports. Next month I hope to have some more news for you.
