What follows is a fast and incomplete report of the informal reunion in Hanover on October 12-14. It is fast because if your secretary does not get it to Hanover immediately, it will not be printed in the November issue and it is incomplete because of your secretary's utilization of the double-pocket system of note-keeping.
The cocktail party and dinner on Friday evening was shared (in Alumni Hall) with several other classes but with some 40 attendees from '43. After the dinner, the hard core retired to the Bible and Drum room at the Inn rather than watch either the pre-game bonfire or the TV announcement of the new Vice President. The table having been saved by Carol and Tuss Hand who were quickly joined by your secretary and wife Susie, the group grew to include Shirley and Jim Elleman, Dottieand Ed Lider, Mary and Bill Chilcote, Rita andJim Doucette, and Connie and Don Reich (who got the last room in the Inn). Later arrivees after the play at Hopkins Center (in which Janie and KellyCoffin's son was starred) included said Coffins,Lois and Hud King (all the way up from Atlanta), Shirley and Phil Jackson, Sue and Doc Fielding,Lorraine and Eddie O'Brien and "Popular Bob"Clarke (Bob's wife, Bunny joined the festivities on Saturday and Sunday).
The class meeting on Saturday morning was moved up one-half hour to 9:30 thus insuring a small turnout and an ability to accomplish things by committee. A report on the meeting and the agreed-to class project will appear in next month's issue. Subsequent to the meeting, came the annual class picture at the '43 War Memorial, tail-gating at Dorothy and Church Leonard's and a football game which you can probably read about elsewhere in this issue if you are of a mind to.
The highlight of the day was probably the best dinner we have ever had in Hanover. The Class took over Stell Hall at Tuck School for cocktails, dinner and dancing, all of which went on until the magic hour of midnight. Ruth and Paul Young outdid themselves in making the arrangements for the affair. Those attending not earlier mentioned included Ruth and Charlie Donovan (whose daughter is a senior at Dartmouth), Janet andBen Edmonds, (Janet is an assistant to Congresswoman Margaret Heckler), Polly andFred Lent in from Chicago, Frank Hartmann (who did some great solo work with his fine bassbaritone voice) Lil and Jack Meleney (Lil is recovering from a broken foot), Gloria and BudLasser, Bill Maeck, Jan and "Farmer" Mead,Betty and Bud Miskell (with their friends Trudy and George deMello). Phyl and Jug O'Conner and last, but not least, Alese and Mort Pechter (who got some excellent photographs of the weekend as he regularly does). In addition to the aforementioned fine singing by Frank Hartmann, there was individual and group dancing by various members of the Class and their wives. While your secretary can attest to the fine polka abilities of Shirley Elleman (and she to my propensity for cardiac arrest) that greatest polka dancer of them all - Johnny Koslowski - was conspicuous by his absence. The Atlanta contingent of Kelly Coffin and Hud King never left the dance floor, the Jacksons and Fieldings (a Boston group) left early, allegedly to catch the Patriot's football game the next day, while another group that shall remain nameless, got a bridge game going.
The weekend was capped on Sunday by a brunch at Dottie and Ed Lider's great new place at Eastman which is about a 20-minute drive down I-89 southeast of Hanover. They are right on the edge of the golf course and have as neighbors the Bob Clarke's and Frank Hartmann's. At the Lider's was Graham Conklin and (I am told) BobField was in evidence the day before.
That covers the notes from one pocket but, I fear, excludes a couple of classmates whose names will appear next month when I go through the other pockets.
As for non-weekend news:
Western Electric reveals that Bob Ehinger, secretary and treasurer of Western Electric, was this past summer elected a vice president and appointed to head the public relations division. He has been in N.Y. headquarters since 1971, after posts in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Kearny, N.J. The Ehingers live in Summit, N.J., but the current Dartmouth student directory lists the address for Bob Jr. '75 as 207 Mass.
And Mel Fenichell is a v.p. of Moore, Leonard & Lynch, Inc. and is associated with their corporate finance department. Jeremy Blanchet is back in Washington and we shall report his activities when we talk with him. And finally Congrats to Herb Marx who has taken unto himself one Dorothy Levine as a bride.
