Well, gang, it's been a fun five years. I'll be sentimental a bit later but for now let me publicly offer my congratulations to Tom O'Neil for the splendid job that he'll undoubtedly do. Just make sure that you write the guy or his home life will be ruined. And of course, no final column would be complete without one last pitch for the Alumni Fund. Just remember, Ted Winterer is a fragile soul and coming in with a less than impressive performance might just push him over the edge. (Hey, don't even think about it.)
Looks like we have time for some actual news. Doug McNeil just became an associate at the Grand Haven, Mich., law firm of Miller, Johnson, Snell & Cumminsky. The press release painted Douglas as a pillar of the community in describing his work on the local Business League, Chamber of Commerce, and nursing home. Doug's legal talent must also come in handy for his work at the Spring Lake Yacht Club, where he probably does some pro bono work in settling all the protests produced during the weekend races. Doug and Chris, and sons Cameron, John, and Ben, live on Spring Lake.
From the "Chivalry is Not Dead" cate- gory comes news in the Daily Dartmouth of a '79 who, on a- cold wintry day at the Bos- ton airport, helped Prof. Marysa Navarro meet her connecting flight to a Central American peace conference in Costa Rica. Ms. Navarro's flight from Lebanon left late and our hero made sure that the professor's luggage made the connecting flight even though it meant violating FAA regulations to do so. That man's name is Buddy Teevens. So what good have the rest of you bums done lately?
Naturally a last column wouldn't be complete without at least one wedding; this one concerning Bill Swenson and his bride, Kathleen Bloch (Ohio Wesleyan '83). A truly star-studded collection attended and included Tom Bird (Stanford B-school and to be married in September), Charlie Vieth (we already know too much about Charlie), Harry Griffith (California banker), Brianand Laura Powers Swigget (on L.I. with two kids), Rob Utzschneider (owns own company in Boston), Duff Horton (Chicago radiologist), Cindy Marder (London banker just married and expecting, to John Calder Tuck '83), Lyman Missimer (married Chicago banker), Russ Campion (married Minnesota investment banker), KentMathewson (Chicago lawyer), Ted Winterer (fragile New Yorker), Rich Pugh (desperado), and Ed Baldridge (married Pennsylvania rutabaga farmer). The rest of the Dartmouth crew included Jo Buford '85, Frank Setian '78, Tony Lotson '80, Mike Walsh '77, John Swenson '50 (somebody's dad, right?), and Steve Braudo '7B. Whew, just so we don't lose sight here, Bill and Kathie live up in Toronto where Bill runs the securities trading and distribution division of Citibank-Canada. Kathie had been with a real estate firm in New York prior to the move up north.
Well, that's it. I guess I never did get to tell you all about my wedding. Someday. Until we celebrate our 10th Reunion, I would advise you to remember Langston Hughes's advice: Folks, I'm telling you, Birthing is hard And dying is mean So get yourself a little loving in between.
