In May I started on the Working Thirties but ran out of space. Taking it from there, Chuck and Bobbie Jacobs frequently give me something to report, with their travels and travel books. Responding to my "Where next?" in the April notes, Chuck says maybe around the world again, via New England (Hanover), Europe, and on to Australia and New Zealand, preparing for the 11th edition of their South PacificTravel Digest. Meantime I've received a copy of their 17th South America Travel Digest, featuring Antarctica on the cover, with eight pages on what it's like down thar. And congratulations this month on their 60th anniversary, which may be a record, so far, for our class.
Fran Horn's Christmas letter revealed that he's taken a salaried job as part-time consultant for a new Swiss college, the International Business School of Lausanne. The Dalglishes formerly operated a school for special students in New Hampshire, and Charlie Widmayer told me he thought there was a job involved in their move last year to Indiana. In addition, as Milt reported, Garven's novel, Henry's journey, is being published, and both he and Jane have other volumes in the works.
Charlie also qualifies as a Working Thirty, having written the authoritative work on the Hopkins presidency, and being engaged now on a similar tome on John Dickey.
Finally, Lee Chilcote. As chairman of Chilcote Realty, etc., he has the kind of job we'd all like, which gives him an office address, the only sure way of reaching him, a secretary, presumably a Bigelow on the floor, and the freedom to winter in Florida and travel in the summer. As reported by Pete Callaway, Lee and Pete just visited England and Iberia, and encountered Peteand Lib Davis, recent refugees from the work force.
So, whom did I miss? Greetings!
