I recently received a magazine in the mail. It was attractively packed in a plain brown wrapper, so my attention was quickly aroused. To my surprise, it was the latest issue of Tournament Digest, a magazine that "covers offshore billfish (sailfish and marlin) tournaments worldwide." The magazine was kindly sent by MarinanneMcCarroll, who is its circulation director. I thumbed through the magazine, which seems to be devoted largely to pictures of fish hanging upside down on hooks, with drunk fisherman standing next to them. Anyway, Marianne is living in Miami, and traveling all through the Caribbean on assignment. "Wherever there are upside down fish, with drunken men standing around, you can bet I'll be there," she says.
Craig Sukin and Amy Berman were planning to wed in June. Amy is currently an associate with the law firm of Skadden, Arps, Grubman and Flom, in New York, while Craig is about to graduate from Duke Medical School. Although Amy probably doesn't realize it yet, Craig dreams of returning to his hometown of Billings, where he and Amy can become the first yuppies in the state of Montana. Amy doesn't know about this brilliant plan yet. Well, actually, by the time she gets to this point in my column, she will know about it. Good luck to both of you.
I recently attended the wedding of ScottHoffman and Rena Sturman. I know that I may have mentioned this wedding in another column, but I'm trying to make a point here. If you invite me to your wedding, you get a lot of space in the column. If you put me in the wedding party, I may devote an entire column to you. If you make me your best man, I may give you my job.
Also in attendance at the wedding were John Buehler, who is living in Chicago, working for a bank, and getting married in June; H. Ted Dardani, who is living in New York, working for a bank, and not getting married in June; and Robert Harteveldt, who is living in New York and doing something, but while he was telling me I was busy removing a small piece of endive that had become lodged in my teeth and I really didn't pay enough attention. Also in attendance were Rick Ehling, who has taken a leave of absence from Dartmouth Med School while he gets his M.B.A. at Stanford and Tim Dining, who is building an empire from his living room in Exeter, N.H.
Derek Goldberg was recently in Washington, and we managed to get together for a few drinks. Derek, for those of you who haven't been following his every move, is still living in California, with Kevin Gorman, while the two are attending film school at USC. I think Derek is studying to be an usher at movies, while Kevin has his eye on ripping up the tickets at the door.
Well, that ends the column for this month. The names you have read are true. As always, the stories have been changed to make them more interesting.
