Several months ago Frank Llewellyn '14 engaged in some correspondence with College secretary Mike McGean '49. We'd like to share part of it with our readers. Here's what Frank wrote:
"Thank you so much for your good letter and if you permit me, I would like to tell you of a few of the memories I have of my four years at Dartmouth.
"Reporting for football practice and being asked by the coach who I was.
"Starting every game in my three years on the team.
Scoring the winning touchdown in defeating Princeton 6-0 in the rain and mud.
"In my sophomore year being thrown in the horse trough (on the Green) at midnight by the freshman class.
"Flunking German and hating it.
"Long walks in the countryside.
"Old tombstones.
"Being beat by Princeton 6-0 when a drop kick bounced off the ground and went over
the goal posts. Incredible but true.
"Also winning the DSC and Croix de Guerre as a pilot in World War I. Shot down twice but walked away. Happy days."
