Most Dartmouth classes have special projects, including many ambitious, multi-year undertakings. But 1951's project-conceived a year ago by our executive committee and called "Hanover: A Remembrance"-is out of the ordinary because it benefits not only the College but also the greater Hanover community.
Since last fall the class of '51, largely through the efforts of Bob and KathyHustek, has supplied $1,000 worth of tickets to a variety of Dartmouth events, both cultural and athletic: football, basketball, and hockey games; performances of the Dartmouth Symphony; and dramatic presentations of the Dartmouth Players.
This year's beneficiaries have included Buildings & Grounds employes; members of the police, fire, and ambulance departments; nurses and staff at Dick's House; Hanover High's music department and students; and Hanover senior citizens.
The letters of thanks from each group attest to the fact that the class has launched a worthy project. A common response praises our "thought fulness for people who are so often taken for granted by the students and alumni." Class president Bob Hopkins adds, "Bob and Kathy Hustek have done a superb job of getting tickets into the hands of those who most appreciate them. They have gone to almost every event and personally greeted our guests."
The project will continue at least through our 40th Reunion in 1991 and in the future will include hospitalized veterans and the disadvantaged.
