For the past seven years, the College's electrical consumption has steadily increased despite substantial investments in energy-saving devices. Although officials are not certain of the cause, Director of Buildings and Grounds Richard Plummer '54 thinks the widespread use of personal computers may be responsible.
On the other hand, Myron Cummings, supervisor of operations at the office of residential life, believes that most of the blame lies with the increased use of microwave ovens and toasters in students' rooms. Both appliances are illegal, and Cummings' office is full of plug-in contraband.
The good news is that, inexplicably, the College's electrical consumption went down during the spring.
