DALLAS, Tex. Relying on the booming tee shots of Bob Dewey '81 and the uncanny iron play of Alan Anderson '55, Dartmouth has placed a golf squad in the National Alumni Golf Classic finals for the first time. The Dallas team, which also includes Bill Pollock '71 and Tim Scott T'68, is the only Dartmouth foursome among the 36 teams representing colleges across the country to make it to the national championship.
The team produced 12 birdies and six pars over the tough Hyatt Bear Creek Resort at DFW Airport's West layout, only two shots behind the day's best score of 58 by Naval Academy alumni. There were 36 teams representing colleges nationwide.
Said Coach Peter Pfeifle '68, "We lipped out three or four putts that could just as easily have dropped, but we're happy to make the top eight and qualify for the finals. Bob and Alan were unbelievable!"
On October 16 the Green foursome will tee it up against 23 other teams that qualified in three sectional events. The venue: the Las Colinas TPC course in Irving, Tex., site of the annual Byron Nelson PGA event.
A second team of Dallas alumni consisting of Dennis Drapkin '68, Tom Larsen '69, Charlie Nearburg '72, and David Howe '76 played well but fell just short of qualifying.
