'This month I didn't need mail to keep up with several of our classmates. I only had to turn on the radio. First I heard that Robert Resnikoff will be represented on your local movie screens. "Transit," a film which Bob both wrote and directed in Hollywood, will be released in February 1990. Then I heard that Jerry Zaks will be directing a major revival of Guys and Dolls at Lincoln Center this spring. If it is half as food as his work on Anything Goes, New York will have another major hit.

The classmate who gets the award for the most media attention lately though has to be Peter Goldenbock. As I was driving on a country road in North Carolina recendy, the local newscaster broke in to announce that a states attorney had advised North Carolina State that they did not have grounds to sue Peter. For those of you who ave not followed the story, Peter's latest book Personal Fouls has been the center of a great controversy—and quickly hit the best-seller list.

Peter's book alleges widespread corruption in the North Carolina State basketball program run by coach and athletic director Jim Valvano. Under threat of a lawsuit, the book's original publisher Simon & Schuster decided not to publish Peter's work. A smaller house, Carroll & Graf, then published the book intact.

Peter's investigative work has led to an NCAA investigative committee looking into changes of player payments and academic irregularities, considerable internal debate at the university, and several changes of personnel. According to several publications Peter has triggered an important reform movement.

Sam Ostrow, who deserves a lot of praise himself for heading the effort, wants us to give special recognition to the classmates who helped us come in 23 percent ahead of our 1989 Alumni Fund goal: Howie Sharf-stein, who served as lawyers chairman and who has accepted the job as our new leadership gifts chairman; regional agents PaulLeach, Bob Span, Gary Erickson, BillYaggy, Morgan Russell, Chris Nevison;Peter Rosser as memorial gifts chairman; Ed Mallett, Beirne Lovely, Paul Killebrew, Ed Henderson, Andy Danver,Mike Hollnagel, Jack Murphy, RickGeissinger, and Bill Robb as fraternity agents. However, to make this year better yet, Sam still needs regional agents in Boston and Chicago and a matching gifts coordinator. Contact Sam (office 212/688- 1200) if you can help.
