This illustration is a DOC sign for a proposed outhouse; on Mt. Cube, a day's hike from campus. The Outing Club is well; known for the imagination it puts into its, uh, satellite structures. Here are a few shining examples: . .
Cloudland: This screened-in, sixsided beauty is the only DOC outhouseever to appear in National Geographic. Privacy is provided by a lovely stand of mixed hardwoods. Veterans say the structure is one of the most comfortable and sweet-smelling privies on the entire AppalachianTrail.
Smarts Mt.: A plaque proclaims this privy "the ultimate driving machine. " The house is decorated with the parts from an old Volvo, ineluding steering wheel and speedometer. Don't forget to fasten the: seatbelt.
Armington: This split-level two- holer allows the visitor to choose a seat six feet up from the floor. Why would anyone want to climb to such a Height? Because, as DOC members like to say, it's there.
John Rand "Holy S" privy: Modeled irreverently after a church in nearby Warren, this three-seater a pew and a reading rack": for what its designers call a "moving experience."
