I hope it isn't bad luck to bring the matter up, but after the death of four classmates in September, it feels very nice indeed to have had no farther obituaries to write during the balance of 1988. As we get older we get more and more
nostalgic. Many of us get lazier and lazier on passing along news about ourselves. It is refreshing therefore when we have suppliers of nostalgia. We are lucky to have two sources of this material. Chick Austin sends in from time to time pieces that he has written in the past. These not only make refreshing reading, but are being preserved in the class archives for you to rummage through when in Hanover for our 65 th or on any other campus visit. Another great source of nostalgic material is Fred Shanaman Jr. '57. Our Fred Shanaman must have been a veritable pack rat for retaining pictures and all forms of memorabilia. As Fred Jr. continues to sort through his father's material we continue to get welcome items, not only from undergraduate days, but from the many reunions that our Fred attended. Wish that there were more families like the Shanamans.
Returns to date on our 65th are encouraging, but not record-shattering. We need word from those who have not responded at all, firming up of the plans of the doubtful, and no defectors from those planning to come. See you all on June 8.
