MARCH 1989 R. Binney Tower,

A clipping from the Delaware State News identified Robert S. Moyer as a new member of their editorial board, responsible for daily production of the opinion pages. Bob's career has included community development work in the Baltimore area, where he worked on the Charles Center and Inner Harbor projects. He also had a stint in the South Pacific with the Mariana Island Housing Authority on saipan.

I regret to report the death of Charles Jordan Thorn on May 24, 1988, in Palm Desert, Calif., from cancer.

While leafing through The New Yorker recently, I saw an item titled "Dept. Of Life Styles (Old Eli Division)." Since I have great sympathy for other class secretaries, I read it and a few excerpts follow:

"D.H. of the Class of 1943 Yale had just launched his new boat Triunfador III in Cancun, Mexico. It was scheduled to be 163 feet long, but since his wife's father just died, it was extended to 195 feet. The boat has all the electronic marvels and is furnished like a sultan's harem. They have hired a gourmet chef, and expect to be in Italy and the Cote d'Azur this summer. All '43 s (from Yale) are invited to come on board for drinks, etc."

Now, Dartmouth '43 s, are we going to take this lying down? Let me know your indulgences, such as a fleet of Lear jets, a 100,000-acre spread in Texas that produces oil, gas, and uranium, or a new custom stretch-limo made out of six Porches.

On a recent trip to Chicago to visit our youngest daughter, we were fortunate enough to spend an evening with Dick and Jane Kimmel. Even though the entire interior of their house was being painted, all furniture was in place, Rembrandts were hung, and lamps, etc., were in order. In contrast, we recently replaced a simple stall shower, and the confusion was so great that we moved into the cow barn next door for a solid week.

Fred Stockwell responded to our greatgrandfather sweepstakes with not just one entry but two! We will keep the polls open until March 15 for all other contestants. Fred indicated that he would rather be called "chief of the '43 Indian tribe" rather than president, which sounds fine to me. I suppose I'll be called "old smoke signals."

Fred also reports that he and Marge were in Bermuda with Mike and Connie Thurston.
