A Couple of '29s, Then and Now
MARCH 1989

On the day after their graduation in 1929, Robert Monahan (left) and Allan Finlay posed on the steps of Gamma Delta Chi, where they were roommates, just before starting a canoe trip down the Connecticut River to Finlay's home in Hartford, Conn. In the second picture, taken last year, their paddles and pack sack have been replaced by a more currently usable cane and a golf club. After 60 years both are still on the go: Finlay helps invest the funds of Simmons College in Boston, and Monahan who became the College's first full-time forester and later served as majority floor leader in the New Hampshire Senate remains active in conservation.
