Jim Garnett reported the death of Bob "Sully" Sullivan, his neighbor in Kenil worth, Ill. Sully had fought a tough fight with cancer, and, as a result of continual medication, his heart gave out. He succumbed on January 11. (Obit in this or a following issue.)
Another victim of cancer was Florence Naitove, Irv's loving wife, on January 19 after a courageous eight-month struggle.
Bill McCarthy, hard at work as a cochairman of our 50th Reunion, says that he is looking forward to being on hand for a graduation weekend. He laments the "tarnished image" given the College by the press, in particular The Wall Street Journal, but he looks to the day when things get resolved and the College gets on with its task of educating in a quieter fashion.
Another hard worker for the class, JimCorner, had a fine Christmas respite in Oregon where he and Doris gravitated to be with their grandchildren.
Howie Snyder sends best wishes for a grand 50th Reunion from his home in Forest Ranch, Calif. He regrets that he can't make it, even though he had planned to be on deck. His wife is not up to the trip, but he says he'll be thinking of all those who attend.
Despite retirement Dick Storrs, another Californian, couldn't stay away from the radiology department at St. Vincent Medical Center in L.A. He returned last summer to help cover for vacations, and admits that "it felt good to feel useful again."
Herb Stine reports enjoying his new home at 79 Spencer Road, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920. He also breathes a sigh of relief having sold his old digs and its 22 acres in Millington, N.J. This all happened last fall.
In the athletic department, our talented president, Bert MacMannis, with a partner who probably wasn't too much help, won the first-ever-tremendous-super-duper-70- years-of-age-and-older Wee Burn Platform Tennis. Championship, just before Christmas. There is now speculation as to whether he'll turn pro.
Somehow you can't keep Dick Brooks out of print. We have a newspaper clipping, complete with picture, showing him posing with a portrait he did of the local rector of the Congregational Church in Essex, Conn., done from a sketch he made while attending a granddaughter's baptism.
A number of us in the class have had trouble locating the widow of Richard "Bob" Woodward, who, as reported in our February column, died sometime before 1983. This information came from Parker Paul, but no one has been able to locate Bob's wife by phone or mail. She was last reported living in Palisades, N.Y. Anyone who can help us solve the puzzle of reaching someone in Bob's family please contact your secretary or a member of the class executive committee.
