By the time this column reaches you, I suspect that most of you will be gearing up for our 5th Reunion. Your heart is aflutter with excitement. You are being driven wild with anticipation. You may be neglecting your health. While I'm happy, to see all the excitement, I don't want anyone to get hurt. Please try to keep this in mind, because what I'm about to do is for your own good.
In order to avoid any undue excitement, I have decided to publish my reunion dance card now, before the reunion. I know this is unexpected, but I think it's best to get it out in the open now. I would hate to have people come to reunion, hoping to dance with me, only to find my card full. Well, without futher ado, here is my 5th Reunion dance card:
Dance #l. A polka—Juliet Aires. Julie a Scorpio, will be an excellent first dance. Julie attends film school in New York, where her thesis is entitled, "American Film and the Polka. A Retrospective." Julie is getting married on April 29, to a man to be named later. Since this turn of events will leave Julie a love-struck newlywed, my first dance may be a quick one.
Dance #2. The Hustle—Roy Forbes. Over the past three years, Roy has lived in L.A., Detroit, and Atlanta. This vagabond quality to Roy's life is a good sign that he will have the agility and stamina needed to properly dance this demanding step. I understand that Roy has spent a great deal of spare time playing ice hockey over the last few years. One word of advice Roy. If you want to lead, leave the skates at home.
Dance #3. A tango—Geoff Berlin. Geoff has been living and working in Paris for the last few months, so this should make him feel right at home. I'm a little leery of this particular dance. You see, Geoff has spent the past few months hunting me down at die request of the Alumni Fund. If things get ugly during the dance, look for me to head for the punchbowl.
Dance #4. A Slow Dance—Mara Rudman. Mara has just returned from the Middle East, where she studied the treatment of Palestinians by the Israeli justice system. In a slow dance situation, you want a partner who is able to tread a fine line without stepping on a lot of toes. Mara's recent experiences suggest that she may be the next Ginger Rogers.
Well, there you have it, my dance card for the reunion. Congratulations to all the winners. I know that four dances doesn't seem like a lot, but I'll probably be pretty busy signing autographs for most of the reunion.
One parting word for all of you who didn't make it; don't worry, there's always the 10th Reunion.
