Enjoyed a visit in February from old Hanover High classmate and best man Don Barr, accompanied by his wife, Ann. They were in the area to consider the future of their Connecticut River property north of Lyme in the light of Don's possible retirement in the next year or so. Whether to remain in their Swansea house, or possibly make the move north, are among their present considerations.

Speaking of former Hanover natives, Wid Washburn '48 was our house guest when visiting the College to talk to the Dartmouth Club of the Upper Valley on March 21. Currently director of the office of American Studies at the Smithsonian Institution, Wid is a candidate for alumni Trustee running against Robert Danziger '56, the nominee of the Alumni Council. An outstanding scholar and football-track letter winner, he is the brother of John Washburn '45 and son of Professor Harold Washburn '10.

Via Ham Bailey word came of a serious auto accident in the early March involving Don and Margaret Furber, who were returning with friends from a weekend in Orford, N.H. Fortunately there were no fatalities in their party, however a considerable period of rehabilitation is forecast. The Furbers live at 29 Bear Hill Road, Sherborn, MA 01770 for those who might wish to communicate.

Incidentally, Ham and Nancy Bailey, accompanied by 17 children and grandchildren, enjoyed a wonderful Kenya-based African safari as well as four days in London during February. One can only imagine the logistical problems involved in that trip but what fun!

Dunc Fitchet has recovered from a broken foot and once again is active on the tennis court. Incidentally, your vice president has organized another golfing trip to the British Isles for next fall, to be accompanied by Ed Scheu and five other local retirees. Meanwhile your president, GusGillaugh, has enjoyed a late winter trip to Palm Springs and Palm Desert, undoubtedly with golf clubs in tow.

As you can see, the mail box has not been overflowing with cards and letters from classmates in recent weeks. Please remember that your fellow '46ers do enjoy hearing about you and your family, especially you guys and gals who haven't been mentioned in quite a while. So take a minute and drop a line to me or Harlan Brumsted, our newsletter editor. Or, better yet, give us a call at 603/448-6942 (Snick) or 607/257-7922 (Brummie). Have a great summer!
