Word has been received that the Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans, Inc. has awarded its "Distinguished American Heroes Award" to BillSpoor. Bill, chairman emeritus, the Pillsbury Company, was one of nine so honored, with these words . . not only have award winners achieved great personal success, but they have demonstrated a strong commitment to assisting those less fortunate than themselves." Congratulations, Bill, It's been a long time since we toiled those many hours together as freshman footballers!
Belated congratulations also to Saul Nirenberg who has been appointed a principal of the L. F. Rothschild Unterberg Towbrin Corporation.
The July issue of the Alpha Delta newsletter brings news that Ted Young, sophomore-to-be son of Art Young, has been instrumental in theeestablishment of a wrestling team. It wouldn't seem right to have another Young on campus without athletic involvement.
Bob Sandoe has made the permanent move north from Newton, Mass., to Acworth, N.H. He and Nancy are residing now in the house they've owned for 32 years, only an hour south of Hanover. Bob will continue his consulting business from Acworth, commuting a couple of days a week to Boston.
Jack and Katie Tyler have been in North Carolina a year and report they love it. They made the 40th and wish to hear from any classmates near their new location at 310 Gatewood Drive, New Bern, NC 28560.
Fletch Ingals reports from Glenbrook, Nev., his retirement two years ago as a pilot with American Airlines. Currently he states he's "basically just enjoying himself with skiing, tennis, traveling, and building an addition on the house."
Good to see Roy and Susemarie Swenson at reunion. Both are keeping busy in Bergenfield, N.J., Roy as a dentist, primarily concerned with prevention and general practice dentistry, and Suse operating the American Myofunctional Therapy Center. This therapy is a technique used to correct weaknesses of the facial muscles that control swallowing, speaking, smiling and eating.
Bette Teschner Zeller, widow of DougTeschner, and husband, Dr. Alan Zeller '48, are currently in Sierra Leone, West Africa, where Alan is Medical Director for the Peace Corps. Bette reports this is "an exciting challenge for two sixty-two-yearolds!"
Tom Mclnerney was unable to attend reunion, due to a sabbatical at Oxford. Tom and Pat are enjoying that lovely location while he works at the Bodleian Library.
From Boston comes word of the naming of Roger Foster as President of the Niles Appraisal and Consulting Company. A veteran of 35 years in the real estate analysis and appraisal field, most recently as past president of the Foster Company of Fitchburg, Mass., Roger will head a company specializing in leasing, sales, appraisal, consulting, and management for commercial investment and residential real estate in eastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
With much regret we learned earlier this year of the death in 1985 of WilliamHann of Virginia Beach, Va.He is survived by his wife, Lorraine, and four children.
Also on August 28, 1985, RussellFranklin Durgin passed away at Mary Hitchcock Hospital in Hanover. At the time of his death, Russell was living in West Topsham, Vt. He was son of Russell L. Durgin '15, nephew of C. Durgin '16, and brother of L. L. Durgin '40.
On April 24 John Leyson Dellinger Jr. died at his home in Woodland, Tex., after a long illness. At the time of his death, Jack was an independent petroleum geologist in the Houston, Tex., area. He is survived by his wife, Virginia, his mother, and six children.
In May Wade Leroy Stierhoff died after a brief illness. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War 11, and an accountant with the Ford Motor Company for 25 years until his retirement in 1981, Wade is survived by his wife, Elaine, a son, Duane, a sister, and two brothers.
On a final sad note, we learned recently of the death on May 28 of Paul SheehanMcGinnis at the New England Medical Center. A resident of Medford, Mass., Paul is survived by his wife, Olive, and three children.
To all of the relatives and friends of these departed classmates we offer our sympathy and love, in the truest spirit of the Dartmouth fellowship.
