Another classmate returning to the Upper Connecticut Valley is Marty Marino. The retired doctor and his wife, Virginia, have purchased a home just north of Orford, N.H., after a brief rental stay in the Eastman development in Granthan, N.H. With Kimball,Fitchet, Ulrich, Martin, Scheu, Pierce,Burnham, Naitove, Copenhaver, and your humble secretary also residing in the area, just a few more '46s and we can have our own monthly luncheon club! Anyone else interested in the good life here?
Our mini-reunion co-chairs, Jack Sayers and Whitey Burnham, wish to get things rolling relative to the October 12-13 event. This fall's get-together will include Dartmouth night on Friday the 12th and football with Yale the next day. Rooms again will be available at the Higbea Motel in Lebanon (603/448-5070) through the end of August. This is a most convenient location just off Exit 18 on I-89 four miles from the College.
Don and Margaret Furber enjoyed dinner in April with Len and Nancy Wilson to celebrate Len's retirement as president of H. P. Hood and Sons, Inc. Len has been the Sherborn, Mass., town moderator for years and expects to stay busy with that a while longer.
Don also reports that Jud Hannigan retired in February and that your treasurer, Ham Bailey, was given a memorable birthday party on April 11 by Nancy at Locke-Ober's in Boston.
John and Edie McClintock are doing a great job in planning for our 45th Reunion next June 10-13. The program is shaping up well, with College-sponsored first-day events to include seminars and/or panel discussions, tours of the campus and the new Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center facility, dinner, president's reception, and glee club concert. Our class activities will include an outing at the Quechee Club with golf, tennis, swimming, a Jazz Night featuring the New Orleans Dixieland Band, a class memorial service and meeting, a joint '45-'46-'47 program, class banquet, and a big band dance with '45 and '47. HarlanBrumsted will outline the events and their sequence in more detail in the newsletter.
Prexy Tom Gillaugh, in anticipation of our 45th, has appointed a nominating committee consisting of Reg Pierce (chairman), Jack Whitman, and Chip Coleman. Reg will welcome any comments or suggestions regarding potential class officers as his committee begins to wrestle with the new slate. His address is Pierce's Inn, Dogford Road, Etna, NH 03750, telephone 603/643-2997.
As a new alumni member of the Dartmouth College Athletic Council, and as chairman of the Athletic Committee of the Alumni Council for 1990-91, I anticipate learning much more about our intercollegiate, intramural, and physical education programs and policies. Your questions, comments, and suggestions will be appreciated.
