It is now time to give serious thought to our fall mini-reunion to be held on Yale game weekend, October 13-14. The 13th will be "Dartmouth Night," and those of us fortunate enough to have experienced last year's parade of classes, messages in front of Dartmouth Hall, and the huge campus bonfire, urge as many of you as possible to participate this time. Rooms are being reserved on the firstcome basis by the Higbea Motel, Rte. .120 in Lebanon. The '46 tent again will be behind Bob and Jackie Kimball's on South Park Street, with a Saturday evening reception and, following the game, dinner in the Drake Room at the Hanover Inn.
A meeting of 1946 class officers was held at the home of Dune and Ruth Fitchet prior to the start of Class Officers Weekend. In addition to VP Dune and yours truly, present were president Gus Gillaugh; newsletter editor Harland Brumsted; mini-reunion co-chairman Whitey Bumham; head agent Welles Fendrich; BobKimball, Ed Scheu, and Jack Ulrich. Items discussed were mini-reunion, a possible class opinion survey, possible class database, and the potential increase in Alumni Magazine subscription rates. Further discussion on the latter three issues will take place at the executive committee meeting on Saturday a.m. of mini-reunion at Kimball's. All class members are most welcome to attend this meeting.
Received a call from Harry Kaminsky during which we discussed mutual concerns about recent campus events. Harry remains a life-long resident of Columbus, Ga., having the luxury of one son in the family business and another a local attorney. In addition to a daughter and two grandchildren, Harry enjoys his nearby farm with 13 horses, plus travel abroad to Spain this year and Bangkok next!
In addition to Bob Kimball, our class will now have another member of the Alumni Council in the person of Dick Esperon, representing a southeastern district including Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, and the Carolinas. Dick is currently president of the Dartmouth Club of the Western Carolinas and head agent for the '47 Tuck annual giving campaign. He and Mary Jo thoroughly enjoy Ashville, N.C., having retired there five years ago after Dick's 37 years with the international division of Eastman Kodak.
Bill DeStefano attended a testimonial dinner in March of the Barnstable County (Cape Cod) Republican Club at which Stephen Weekes was one of the honored guests. Stephen, who lives in Harwich Port, Mass., is the county's retiring registrar of deeds and was the recipient of a proclamation from the Senate of the Massachusetts General Court.
Regretfully, I must mention the passing of two more classmates, T. Coleman Andrews of a heart attack on April 16 in Richmond, Va., and Dr. W. Dean Warren of cancer on May 10 in Decatur, Ga. Both were outstanding in their life's endeavors, T.C. in business and politics, and Dean, a surgeon and medical teacher. Each was a personal friend in our student days, and Dean a baseball teammate as well.
