• Dwight Lahr, dean of the faculty, has stepped down from that post. Lahr cited a desire to return to teaching and research. James Wright, a historian known by students for his popular class nicknamed "Cowboys and Indians," will replace Lahr.
• English Professor Donald Pease, featured in the May issue, has received two honors: a Guggenheim fellowship and appointment as the latest Ted '25 and Helen Geisel Third Century Professor.
• Associate Dean of Faculty Gregory Prince has left Dartmouth to become president of Hampshire College.
• Geographer and Soviet expert George Demko was appointed director of the Nelson A. Rockefeller Center for the Social Sciences. Demko had been the director of the Office of the Geographer at the U.S. Department of State.
