For those of you who missed the column in the last issue, my apologies. The deadline fell in the middle of our vacation, and there was no news to take with me when we left. However, with some digging I've accumulated some faraway tidbits:
The Jetons are in Japan! Peter andNancy sent news of their newest arrival: Hannah (seven months) joins big brother Eric (three)! I thought they were in Australia, but their return address was most definitely Tokyo. I'm assuming Bank of Boston has moved Peter once again. Congratulations! Also in Tokyo is Paul Lacke. Have you folks crossed paths? Paul says that he is "just working, playing and enjoying myself and my family."
From London comes news of other Boston banks and babies: John Whistler and his wife, Mary Lovejoy '77, had a second daughter (Julia) in June of 1989. John is a director of Bank of Boston's merchant bank, and Mary continues at the First National Bank of Chicago in the Covent Garden office. And not far away, in soggy Scotland (Ayr), comes word from Thomas Potter. He has a toddler named Evan and reports that they are "healthy and happy" and continuing to enjoy Scotland.
The Hungarian Finance and Trade Corporation announced the appointment of Lawrence Rosenshein as a managing director in HFT's New York headquarters. His main responsibility will be to market HFT's services to North American clients and to structure investment opportunities. Previously, he was with L.W. Stern Associates, a New York-based international human resource consulting and executive search firm. Lawrence and his wife, Katie, have three children (Lauren 5, Scott 3, and Margot 1). He says that he "will be traveling to Eastern Europe on a regular basis and would be happy to advise classmates on the best places to stay and the best restaurants in which to eat."
And now for some news from faraway places within our own country: Mary Nolan is living in Portland, Ore., and was recently elected to her third term as president of Oregon NARAL (affiliate of the National Abortion Rights Action League). She was also elected to co-chair of Oregonians for Choice, "a statewide campaign committee dedicated to preserving freedom of choice in Oregon by defeating two antichoice/anti-abortion ballot measures."
From sunny California: Neil Tarzy, his wife, Mary-Ellyn '78, and their two children (Jill 9 months, and Alex 3) are living in Poway. Neil has established a practice in family medicine in North County San Diego.
And Austin, Tex., is the home for AlfredStanley's family, including Kevin 4, and Rachel 1. He received an M.S. in statistics from the University of Texas at Austin and is working as a consultant and taking actuarial exams.
Equally in need of air-conditioning is Sawnie McEntire, who is living and practicing law in Houston. He and his wife, Debra (Mt. Holyoke '76), have two children, Kate 7, and Maggie 5. Sawnie is a partner specializing in civil litigation, and his practice takes him throughout Texas, and occasionally to the east and west coasts.
And more news from sunny places: DavidPlane is an associate professor in the geography and regional development department at the University of Arizona. He has also been doing some exotic traveling, when last year he presented research papers at conferences in Singapore, Israel, and Baltimore. He reports, "The Asian trip involved a lovely side trip to Bali with my wife, Kathy Jacobs (Middlebury '77), sans our now three-year-old daughter Emily Ruth Plane. Romantic.
