MARK YOUR CALENDARS NOW: Come to Hanover the weekend of October 13-14! Friday is Dartmouth Night with a bonfire, pep rally, and music. On Saturday morning at 9:30, we will have a class meeting in 104 A Dartmouth. The meeting is open to all classmates, of course, and we will discuss ideas for a new class project. Please come and bring your great ideas. After the meeting, Dartmouth will beat Yale at football, and there will also be a post-game '76 mini-reunion, so save the weekend and be there October 13!

Many thanks to Gretchen Kent who sent news of herself and others. I am eternally grateful for such letters! Gretchen is living in San Francisco, working for Pacific Telesis, and having a great time. She remains active in the Army Reserve and expects to be promoted to major this year. Congratulations, Gretchen! Also in San Francisco (and living two blocks from Gretchen) is Sandy Helve. Her business, The Helve Group, is flourishing, and she has taken up painting as a hobby. Gretchen also reported that Adrien Mally (exchange '76) and her husband, Frank Sommer '77, had a baby in March.

California is also home to Pete Dakin who lives in Solana Beach with his wife, Kelly, a recent graduate of the University of San Diego. Pete has been a commercial/industrial real estate broker with Grubb and Ellis for the past six years. And for those of you who used to confuse Pete with PeterDawkins, you may be interested to know that the two now live far enough apart to avoid any further confusion. Peter Dawkins is a senior industrial products analyst for Walwyn Stodgell Cochran Murray, after eight years in corporate finance with Merrill Lynch Canada.

Special thanks to Bill Schillhammer, our newsletter editor, who shared his wealth of news with me just as I had hit rock bottom. Bill has just been promoted to chief operating officer at Number Nine Computers, and he is living in Westford, Mass., with his wife, Marybeth, and their two children.

Lawyers unite! From Seattle, news just in that Bob Casey is a trial lawyer with the firm of Tousley Brain. Bob's free time is still spent mountain climbing and choral singing. (A great combination!) Also in Seattle practicing law is Jan Murphy.

"Alive and well and practicing law in Cleveland" is Michael Tuan Bustamante. He and his wife, Aster, have a one-year-old daughter, Gabrielle. Tuan often sees AlanJones, Donald Lambert, and DaveBrooks, on Martha's Vineyard each summer.

New England lawyers include GregFryer and Sean Gorman. Greg and his wife, Joanne, are enjoying life in Portland, Maine. Greg is chairman of the corporate department at the law firm of Verrill and Dana, specializing in corporate securities work. Many off hours are spent sailing on Casco Bay. Sean is associate college counsel at the College. What a year to be at Dartmouth, from a legal perspective!

Charlie Thayer, Carey Heckman, Bill Schillhammer, and I attended the April Class Officers Weekend, and heard all the current issues hashed out from every perspective. One clear message: Dartmouth alumni care about the College like no other alumni around. What many find hard to accept is that the College has always been changing and developing to fit the demands of the time. None of us wants to lose our Dartmouth. Of course, none of us will.

"This I suggest may be the uniqueness of Dartmouth's opportunity now: to demonstrate a revitalization of the historic college purpose in today's terms." John Sloan Dickey, 1961.
