Dan Provost was there. Of course he was, class president, presiding at the executive committee meeting during the fall mini in mid October, pointing toward the 50th next June 7-9. Dan was there, and all told more than 50 (partners included) dined Friday evening at the DOC House. It was a balmy Indian summer evening that saw many frosh '94s decked out in shorts and class T's on the campus green, gathering for such Dartmouth Night activities as the fabled bonfire. Next morning, all as it was before-the Row pristine, the trees autumnal, Baker the beacon, together imparting the enduring character and qualities that comprise the mystique of Dear Old Dartmouth.
At the meeting it was announced that Bob Flouton had taken over chairing the Scholarship Fund from Bob Harvey, resigned, and that Felix Lilienthal, chairing, together with Hank Gunst and John Ahlgren, make up the nominating committee to submit a slate of candidates for election to class offices at our 50th. Most of those present voted to have the 1991 mini-reunion October 25-27, and most of the meeting was devoted to information about the big get-together that will take place Commencement weekend in June. From cochairs Bill Hotaling and Steve Winship we learned that the probably-will-come number has risen to 174, with Buzz Buzzell and Lee Grace among the added names. The intended amount of the class gift to the College, said Head Agent Art Hills, is $1,000,041.
Who else was on hand for the festivities? Bo Warner for one, together with Marlene. Bo had cut out in 1939 and this was his first return—"hopefully not my last," he wrote on a notecard. From other cards turned in at the meeting, the following: BrodieBjorldund is a first-time grandfather. CarlKrogh is "still active in town affairs" in Deerfield, Mass. Retired from AT&T is Ez Crowley, "but still working in semi-active status," and looking forward to next June. Lance Ballou was "delighted to be at this mini-reunion" with wife Margaret. A fourth-generation Kenworthy, grandson Jesse Lloyd, is class of '94 so says grandpa Hugh Kenworthy. Flying is Dick Blanchard's main interest these days. Striving to perfect one-day-per-week working schedules are Bruce Friedlich and Karla. BeanyNutt has been "as" busy as ever," visiting Greece and Turkey last June. JohnnyWhite and Pudge need 14 fingers to count all of their grandchildren. Finally, UncRichardson, chair of class giving for the 50th, writes that "we need everyone's support to meet our goal (for) a great College." Not everyone will have the privilege of taking part as donor or participant: four more obits were sent to DAM just prior to the mini, and word circulated of the death, not previously reported, of Bill Broer. The 50th's memorial service will be conducted by George Dreher, Dick Knight and Tom Littlefield.
Some of the living will choose to opt out, such as Bob Griffeth, whose letter indicates that he has "no interest whatsoever in returning to Hanover." Also in the mailbag is a news item from Bill English via DAM and other letters. More later. Peace.
