At what has to be called a maxi-mini reunion, the class of '62 celebrated its collective 50th birthday in Washington, D.C., during the weekend of May 4. Some 92 classmates, together with 98 family, friends and disbelievers, coagulated in die nation's capital to enjoy an incredible weekend orgamzed by Tom and Judy Komarek. The schedule included cookouts on the Labor Department roof, a boat excursion to Mount Vernon, a formal dinner at the Cannon House Caucus Room (which has hosted other gala affairs such as the Watergate hearings), and an authentic fraternity basement Dash at the Irish Times pub. It was a perfect time to recount old stories (and establish new ones), let our collective hair down (easier for some), and remember those classmates who couldn't make the occasion.
Those who did make it included: Ackland, Apgar, Aydelott, Barnes, Beal,Biggs, Blair, Brink, Brodkey, Burkhardt,Cantelon, Centracchio, Choate, C.Cohen, F. Cook, Cox, Cushman, Cutter,Davies, Drobny, Dynner, Ewing-Smith,Falkenberg, Feldman, Gasbarro,Giersch, P. Giles, Godsnlan, Goedkoop,Goldsmith, T. On April 27, the eighth annual 1962 Faculty Fellowship was awarded to Professor Ellis Shookman of the German Department. Armed with a Ph.D. from Yale, Ellis specializes in the literature of Lessing and Herder. The fellowship partially offsets the cost of one semester's independent research for promising younger faculty members. To date, three of the recent '62 recipients have been granted tenure at Dartmouth. On hand for the award were Gary Clark, JohnClark, Gene Gasbarro, Bill Sadd, DanTompkins, Gordy Williamson, and C.Giersch. During the Class Officers Weekend that followed, Bill Sadd was elected first VP of the Class Treasurers Association.

Gatz is an independent writer with at least six books of fiction and some 15 film scripts to his credit; his kudos include a National Endowment for the Arts fellowship and Playboy editorial awards for best new contributor and best major work. Gatz makes his home in the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness of Montana, just west of New York City's East 66th Street.
